This work by Utagawa Toyohiro, a prominent figure of the Utagawa school, captures a quiet moment of observation. The composition features a woman and a small child standing beneath the boughs of a flowering cherry tree. The artist employs a delicate line quality to define the figures, particularly in the rendering of the woman's facial features and the folds of her kimono. The palette remains restrained, relying on soft pinks for the blossoms and muted earth tones for the background, which is typical of silk paintings from this period.
Toyohiro, who was the teacher of the famous Utagawa Hiroshige, possessed a refined approach to the bijin-ga genre, which focuses on the depiction of beautiful women.
