Painted in 1943, White Figure belongs to the final period of Wassily Kandinsky's career, during his residence in France. This work displays the artist's move toward a highly individualised vocabulary of biomorphic forms. Against a deep, dark background, a large, pale, amoeba-like shape dominates the composition. This central form acts as a vessel for various geometric and organic motifs, including grids, triangles, and striped ovals.

Kandinsky's later works often feature these suspended, microscopic-looking entities. The composition avoids traditional perspective, instead relying on the placement of these shapes to create a sense of weightless suspension. The colour palette is restrained, allowing the stark contrast between the luminous white figure and the near-black ground to dictate the visual rhythm. Small, decorative elements, such as the series of triangles at the base and the radiating lines to the right, add a sense of movement and playfulness to the otherwise static arrangement.

This piece reflects Kandinsky's ongoing interest in the relationship between science and art. The forms resemble biological organisms or celestial bodies, suggesting a microscopic or cosmic scale.
