Beskrivning
Walney Island in Cumbria opens onto a wide shingle shore, where yellow flowers and lichen-covered boulders overlook blue water, breaking surf and a distant line of coastal houses.
Off Barrow-in-Furness, this island lies at the western end of Morecambe Bay beside the Irish Sea. Walney Channel separates it from the mainland, with the Jubilee Bridge providing a crossing since 1908. Nature reserves occupy both ends of the island.
Large grey boulders border the near shore of Walney Island, their upper surfaces bright with yellow lichen. Below, pebbles give way to wet sand and blue tidal pools. Thin surf lines cross the open water, while pale houses follow the distant coast on the right. Cream clouds and sunlit flowers suggest a breezy summer afternoon.
