This collection of textile fragments, catalogued as towel ends, provides a view into the domestic needlework traditions of the past. The assembly includes a variety of decorative borders and panels, each displaying distinct motifs executed in embroidery. The largest piece on the left features a bold, symmetrical floral pattern, likely inspired by traditional Mediterranean or Eastern European folk designs. Its heavy, dark stitching creates a strong contrast against the lighter fabric ground.
The remaining fragments demonstrate a range of techniques and styles. Some strips exhibit geometric, snowflake-like patterns, while others show flowing, vine-like arrangements with small blossoms. These pieces were functional items, intended to adorn the edges of household linens. The variation in stitch density and motif complexity suggests that these were produced by different hands, perhaps as part of a dowry or for general household use. The preservation of these fragments allows for an examination of the material culture of the period, specifically the attention to detail applied to everyday objects.
