Johann Christian Vollerdt, a German painter active during the mid-eighteenth century, specialised in topographical views and scenes of rural life. This work depicts the Belgrade Forest, situated near Istanbul, focusing on the hydraulic infrastructure known as the Bends. These reservoirs were essential for supplying water to the city, and Vollerdt captures the engineering alongside the natural surroundings.
