Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto, produced this view of Venice during the height of his career. The composition focuses on the Piazzetta, with the column of Saint Theodore positioned prominently in the foreground. Beyond the stone quay, the Grand Canal opens up, leading the eye toward the distinctive domes of the church of Santa Maria della Salute.
