Tet, created in 1958, is a representative example of the Veil series by Morris Louis. This work demonstrates the artist's technique of pouring thinned Magna paint onto unprimed canvas. By manipulating the fabric, Louis allowed the pigment to flow across the surface, creating translucent layers that merge and overlap. The resulting composition lacks traditional brushwork, focusing instead on the interaction between the fluid medium and the raw weave of the canvas.

The visual effect is one of depth and atmospheric movement. The colours, primarily shades of blue, green, and subtle violet, bleed into one another, forming soft, organic shapes that appear to float. The central area of the canvas features a symmetrical, V-shaped structure, a characteristic motif in the Veil series. This arrangement draws the eye inward, creating a sense of expansion that defies the physical boundaries of the frame.

Louis was associated with the Washington Color School, a group of artists who prioritised the properties of colour and the flatness of the picture plane. In Tet, the paint is absorbed directly into the fibres, ensuring that the image remains inseparable from the support.
