Beskrivning
South Uist Machair follows the island’s west coast, where coastal grassland runs beside the shore and supports summer wildflowers, rare orchids and wildlife such as corncrakes.
A pale stone strand curves beside the water, with large boulders filling the lower slope. A low stone wall follows the grassy bank towards small white buildings on the horizon. Beyond them, distant hills sit under a bright blue sky crossed by broad white clouds.
At Stoneybridge Beach and Machair on the Isle of South Uist, the South Uist Machair runs parallel to the beach. Summer flowers include rare orchids, and the machair supports wildlife such as the corncrake. Atlantic waves shape the storm beach, while its rock bank helps keep debris from the minor road beyond.
