Sedbergh in Cumbria rests below a vast rounded hillside, with two leafy trees throwing long shadows across an open field towards the town's clustered slate roofs.
Winder rises immediately behind this Cumbrian town on the southern edge of the Howgill Fells. As the southernmost of those hills, it marks the transition between the settlement's built streets and enclosed pasture below, and the open upland slopes above.
The Sedbergh rooftops form a low grey band beneath the smooth gold and purple face of the fell. Two trees stand apart in the nearer field, their shadows stretched across the grass. Dry seed heads rise beside a foreground stone wall. Rose and orange light colours the clouds, suggesting a late summer evening.
