River Wear opens into a long, calm blue channel, with low waterfronts framing distant towers and a red shore-side building beneath bright cloud and high sky.
Looking inland from Roker, the River Wear opens between Sunderland’s waterfronts. Water covers most of the foreground, with low buildings on both shores and a denser skyline receding near the centre. Several isolated trees break up the lower roofs along the far shore.
A squat red waterside structure anchors the left bank; pale towers, roofs and treetops break the farther horizon. High cream clouds stretch over the blue, leaving the river as the main shape in the image. The two shorelines guide the view towards the distant city across the calm reach.
