This painting by Willem Troost (II) captures the Buitenzorg Palace, now known as the Bogor Palace in Indonesia, shortly before the destructive earthquake of 10 October 1834. As a Dutch artist active in the East Indies, Troost documented the colonial architecture and the surrounding tropical environment with a focus on clarity and atmospheric light.
