R Wear reaches the sea at Sunderland beside a long pier and slender lighthouse, with dark shore rocks, a quiet sandy margin and warm reflections beneath orange evening clouds.
The nearest beach carries long pools of reflected gold, broken by a scatter of angular boulders. A grassy bank rises along the right, ending beside a straight wall. Across the channel, a tall pale beacon stands near the tip of a low projecting pier.
The retained source places R Wear at the mouth of the River Wear in Sunderland. This outlook gives the crossing from river to sea a broad open setting, with the opposite pier low against the horizon. Warm light gathers on the wet sand, while deeper purple shadows collect between the near rocks and along the edge of the bank.
