Constant Troyon, a member of the Barbizon School, produced this work in 1860. The painting depicts a team of oxen pulling a plough through a field, a subject that reflects the artist's focus on rural life and animal studies. Troyon spent significant time observing the livestock of the French countryside, and his ability to capture the physical presence of these animals is evident in the weight and musculature of the oxen.
