Beskrivning
New Galloway in Dumfries and Galloway leads between white cottages towards a small clock tower, with hanging flowers, grey roofs and green hills beneath the clean blue sky of summer.
Established in the seventeenth century by John Gordon, this small royal burgh grew as a stopping place for pilgrims travelling to Whithorn. Cattle trading and agricultural shows became important local activities, while its historic High Street and town hall preserve the scale of the older settlement.
At New Galloway, whitewashed cottages and stone houses step down a narrow unmarked street. Grey slate roofs carry dormers and clustered chimney pots. Red flowers spill from baskets beside a pale doorway, while a small clock tower anchors the distant end. Bright lawns and rounded wooded hills rise beyond, suggesting settled weather on a sunny summer morning.
