This ink wash painting reflects the aesthetic principles of the Kano School, a dominant lineage of Japanese painters active from the Muromachi period through the end of the Edo period. The work employs the sumi-e technique, utilising varying concentrations of black ink to suggest depth, atmosphere, and form. The composition is sparse, focusing on the interplay between positive and negative space to evoke a sense of distance and quietude.

A solitary mountain peak emerges from a wash of grey, suggesting a distant range obscured by heavy mist.
