This work depicts the Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai in a moment of quiet contemplation before the immense scale of Mount Lu. Attributed to the Southern Song painter Zhong Li, the composition employs the characteristic 'one-corner' arrangement favoured during this period. The artist places the primary subject, the poet, on a small, rocky promontory in the lower right, allowing the vast, mist-filled void of the mountain and waterfall to dominate the remaining space.

The brushwork demonstrates the technical precision typical of the Southern Song Academy. The cliff face is rendered with sharp, angular strokes that suggest the rugged texture of stone, while the waterfall is captured with fluid, vertical lines that convey the weight and motion of falling water. The use of ink wash creates a sense of atmospheric depth, with the distant peaks fading into a soft, monochromatic haze.
