This woodcut depicts King Henry VIII as a mounted monarch, a common motif in sixteenth-century European printmaking used to project royal authority and military prowess. Hans Liefrinck (II), a Flemish printmaker active in Antwerp, produced this work during a period when the dissemination of royal imagery was essential for political communication across the continent. The composition follows the conventions of the era, placing the monarch in full plate armour, mounted upon a caparisoned horse, and surrounded by heraldic symbols.
