Kanbara: Evening Snow is the sixteenth station in the series Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido. This woodblock print captures a quiet, wintry scene in the Kanbara post town. Hiroshige employs a muted palette to convey the stillness of a heavy snowfall. The composition features a steep, snow-covered path where three travellers make their way through the cold. Their figures are small, emphasising the scale of the surrounding mountains and the isolation of the village.

The print demonstrates Hiroshige's mastery of atmospheric effects. The sky is rendered with a subtle gradation, known as bokashi, which darkens towards the top to suggest the onset of night.
