This woodblock print is the forty-fourth station in the Hoeido edition of the Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido. Utagawa Hiroshige depicts the rural surroundings of Ishiyakushi, a post station located in the Ise Province. The composition centres on a quiet temple complex nestled against the base of a large, blue-toned mountain. The foreground features a path where travellers carry goods, while farmers work in the adjacent fields among stacks of harvested grain.

Hiroshige employs a restrained palette to convey the atmosphere of a late autumn or winter day. The use of bokashi, a technique involving the manual gradation of ink on the woodblock, is visible in the mountain range and the soft sky. This method allows for a subtle transition of colour, providing depth to the scene without relying on heavy outlines. The architecture of the temple is rendered with precision, contrasting with the more fluid, gestural depiction of the trees and the figures in the field.

Unlike the more dramatic weather conditions found in other prints from this series, this image focuses on the daily rhythm of life along the Tokaido road. The print captures a moment of stillness, reflecting the artist's ability to observe the intersection of human activity and the natural environment. The inclusion of calligraphy in the upper left corner identifies the location and the series, maintaining the traditional format of the ukiyo-e genre.
