Hornsea Mere glows with reflected sunset light, while swans cross the water in front of the tree-covered Swan Island as evening light colours the water.
The place note locates Hornsea Mere in Hornsea, East Riding of Yorkshire, England, and says the view looks towards Swan Island. The poster places that island across the centre of the lake, with trees silhouetted against the low sun. The water and its birds occupy the foreground beneath the glowing sky.
Golden light reflects across the calm surface, broken by small ripples around scattered waterbirds. Two larger swans stand out among the darker birds nearer the foreground. The tree-covered island stretches across the middle distance, its bare branches outlined against orange and rose clouds. Reeds rise from the lower left corner, adding a dark frame to the bright lake.
