Hill of Wirren occupies the Angus uplands between Glen Esk and Glen Lethnot, a broad hill of heather and peat where long ridges open towards distant mountains and the eastern lowlands.
Between the valleys of Esk and Lethnot, this extensive hill reaches 678 metres. Its surrounding ground is characterised by heather and peat hags, with routes following broad ridges and views extending across Strathmore and the Howe of the Mearns in clear conditions.
Hill of Wirren is seen through overlapping gold and purple slopes under an orange sunset. Thin pale tracks cross the hillsides, and a silver river turns through trees in the hollow below. Grey foreground rocks sit among dark heather. The warm vegetation suggests autumn, with a low sun above distant mauve ridges lending the open landscape a quiet evening glow.
