This panel is a component of the Maestà, the monumental altarpiece commissioned for the Siena Cathedral. Duccio di Buoninsegna, a central figure in the Sienese School, executed this work between 1308 and 1311. The scene depicts the biblical narrative of Christ restoring sight to a blind man.

Duccio employs a clear, narrative structure typical of his approach to religious iconography. Christ stands at the centre, his hand extended to touch the eyes of the man before him. The figures are arranged with a sense of spatial order, reflecting the transition from Byzantine traditions toward a more humanised representation of sacred events.
