The composition focuses on the aggressive tactics employed by local innkeepers to secure business. Two women from a nearby establishment physically pull a weary traveller towards their inn, while another traveller attempts to resist their advances.

To the right, the interior of the inn is visible. A man sits on the floor, tending to his tired feet in a basin of water, while a woman watches from an upper window. The scene provides a glimpse into the daily realities of travel along the Tokaido road, which connected Edo to Kyoto. Hiroshige balances the narrative action with the architectural lines of the buildings, which recede into the distance to create a sense of space.

The print demonstrates the artist's ability to combine human observation with topographical detail. The colour palette remains restrained, relying on soft blues, earthy browns, and muted tones to define the figures and the street. The use of line is precise, characteristic of the Ukiyo-e tradition, where woodblock carving allowed for clean, expressive contours.
