Beskrivning
Galashiels in the Scottish Borders lies below rolling green hills, its red church spire and pale buildings rising through leafy trees above an open sunlit lawn.
Galashiels grew within the narrow valley of the Gala Water. Textile production shaped the Scottish Borders town, with water diverted through a mill lade to drive its mills. The Manufacturers Corporation was established in 1777, reflecting the industry’s importance well before its nineteenth-century expansion.
A red spire stands on the left beyond rounded tree crowns and closely packed slate roofs. Across the valley, larger white buildings interrupt the darker band of woodland. The near lawn remains open and green, while conifers and patchwork fields mark the hills behind the town beneath a bright blue sky and cream-edged summer clouds.
