This woodblock print by Yanagawa Shigenobu depicts an intimate domestic scene, characteristic of the Ukiyo-e tradition. Shigenobu, a student and son-in-law of the master Katsushika Hokusai, developed a distinct approach to figure drawing that often favoured softer, more rounded facial features compared to the sharper lines of his contemporaries. The composition is divided across two pages, a common format for illustrated books or albums of the period.

The scene shows three figures within a traditional Japanese interior. Two women are seated on the floor near a low table, which holds a kettle and tea-making implements. Their postures are relaxed, suggesting a moment of quiet conversation or preparation. A man stands to the right, adjusting his hair or headwear, his striped kimono rendered with precise, rhythmic lines. The interior architecture, including the sliding doors and tatami-like floor space, provides a structured backdrop for the figures. The colour palette is restrained, relying on muted tones of grey, soft blue, and pale pink, which allows the viewer to focus on the textures of the clothing and the arrangement of the household objects.

Shigenobu was known for his work in the surimono style, which often involved high-quality paper and subtle printing techniques.
