Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin produced Epitaph in 1913, a period during which his work moved away from strict realism towards a more subjective, symbolic language. The figure wears a distinctive headpiece and dark tunic, rendered with fluid, visible brushwork that suggests a sense of immediacy and emotional weight.
