This woodblock print is part of the series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, a collection that solidified Hokusai's reputation during the late Edo period. The composition depicts the island of Enoshima at low tide, revealing the sandbar that connects it to the mainland. Pilgrims are shown traversing this path, their small figures providing a sense of scale against the coastal geography.
To the left, the island rises with its dense foliage and the silhouette of a pagoda, suggesting the religious significance of the site.
