East Coast Main Line is anchored by a long stone railway viaduct, giving the view a spacious, steady mood, with open space around the scene.
The bridge runs from one side of the picture to the other, its repeated arches reflected in blue water below. Green banks edge the river, and a small cluster of buildings sits beyond the far end. Thin clouds stretch across the open sky, keeping the scene bright and uncluttered.
The East Coast Main Line is conveyed through infrastructure carrying the route across the scene. Repeated arches make the crossing legible at a glance, while open water below shows how rail travel meets the river here. The long bridge draws a direct line between the two banks.
