The calligraphy displays the controlled, balanced brushwork characteristic of the imperial style during this period. The characters are executed with a steady hand, demonstrating the discipline expected of a scholar-emperor. The ink sits upon a warm, neutral silk ground, which has aged to a soft, earthy tone over the centuries.
The couplet itself evokes a scene of quiet observation, focusing on the interplay of light and mist over a pond. The composition is sparse, allowing the negative space to frame the vertical columns of text. Several red seal impressions are visible along the sides, indicating the provenance and the imperial ownership of the piece.
