This single page illustration by the Safavid artist Shaykh Muhammad depicts a camel and its handler in a style characteristic of late 16th-century Persian miniature painting. The work focuses on the interaction between the animal and the groom, who holds the camel by a lead. The artist employs a delicate, calligraphic line to define the forms, prioritising clarity and grace over heavy shading or three-dimensional modelling. The camel is shown in profile, with its anatomy rendered through precise, economical strokes that suggest the texture of its coat and the structure of its limbs. The groom, dressed in traditional attire, is positioned alongside the animal, creating a balanced composition within the rectangular frame.
The drawing is set against a decorative border featuring gold flecks, a common practice in the presentation of Persian manuscripts and albums. This mounting provides a contrast to the spare, linear quality of the central illustration.
