Byfield in Northamptonshire opens across a wide green lawn towards a tall church spire, pale village houses and leafy hills under soft white cloud in summer.
Byfield is a Northamptonshire village whose Church of the Holy Cross preserves a substantial medieval building. Much of the ironstone church dates from around 1350, with later alterations to its upper walls. Its west tower and spire remain a distinctive feature of the village.
Long tree shadows stretch across the grass towards a stone church on the left, topped by a warm-coloured needle spire. A large pale house with sash windows stands to the right among rounded tree crowns. Behind the roofs, green fields and hedges climb the hillside beneath a broad expanse of blue sky and softly lit summer clouds.
