Beskrivning
Badcall Bay in Sutherland, Highland, opens across calm turquoise water towards low rocky islands, with rusty shrubs and rounded foreground stones beneath a distant blue mountain skyline.
Near Scourie on Sutherland's west coast, this island studded bay lies within a landscape of ancient gneiss. Geological studies identify numerous dykes cutting the local rock, making the shoreline a significant place for understanding the structure and history of Scotland's far northwest.
At Badcall Bay, green and ochre land strips divide a broad reach of blue water. Low grey outcrops mark the near shore, while a larger wooded island spans the middle distance. Beyond, a flat topped mountain and neighbouring peaks fade into cool blue. Rust coloured plants soften the foreground grass. Bright cloud banks and clear shadows suggest early autumn in settled coastal weather.
