The artist employs the urushi-e technique, which involves hand-colouring the print with pigments and sometimes applying glue to create a lacquer-like sheen on darker areas.

The composition is balanced and vertical, typical of the hosoban format used for actor prints and street figures of the era. The subject wears a kimono featuring a bold, geometric diamond pattern, contrasted with pine needle motifs. The baskets contain slips of paper, likely the written prophecies or fortunes offered to passers-by. Toshinobu, a member of the Okumura school, was known for his contributions to the development of early Ukiyo-e, particularly in his focus on theatrical subjects and urban types.

The line work is precise and controlled, defining the folds of the fabric and the posture of the figure with clarity.
