Robert Spencer, a member of the New Hope School of American Impressionism, often turned his attention to the industrial and working-class environments of Pennsylvania. The composition is dominated by a block of brick buildings, rendered with thick, textured brushwork that emphasises the weathered surfaces of the structures.
