Beschrijving
Loch Maree in Highland Wester Ross rests below a broad grey mountain through a frame of leafy branches, with pale shore stones and a small cairn beside the still blue summer water.
Loch Maree lies beside the Beinn Eighe mountain country in Wester Ross. More than sixty islands preserve fragments of ancient Caledonian pinewood, protected within the national nature reserve. Together with the wooded lower mountain slopes, these islands shelter wildlife associated with some of Scotland’s least disturbed native forest.
A birch trunk rises from the right foreground and stretches leafy branches across the sky. Beneath it, rounded grey rocks cover a pale beach where a small stack of flat stones stands near the water. Across the loch, exposed rock ribs divide a broad green mountain face. Soft cloud reflections and fully leafed trees suggest the sheltered warmth of a summer afternoon.
