Beschrijving
Clachnaben marks the Glen Dye hills of Aberdeenshire with a prominent granite tor, a rocky crown rising from open moorland above the wooded valleys of the eastern Grampians.
A familiar landmark of Lower Deeside, the hill stands in Glen Dye and is distinguished by its large granite outcrop. Seen from farther away, this abrupt rocky feature can resemble a ruined stronghold, giving the summit an easily recognised outline above the surrounding slopes.
Clachnaben is approached along a pale stony path which forks before climbing towards the tor. Grey fractured rocks rise above green turf, while purple heather spreads across the near moor. Distant hills overlap in blue and muted green under large white clouds. The flowering vegetation suggests late summer, with bright light revealing the texture of the summit stone.
