


Giovanni Lanfranco
Giovanni Lanfranco was born in 1582. He studied under Agostino Carracci in Parma before moving to Rome in 1602 to join the workshop of Annibale Carracci in the Palazzo Farnese. His early commissions included the decoration of the Camerino degli Eremiti and work for the Marchese Sannesi. Following a period in Piacenza, he returned to Rome, where he received commissions from the papal court and decorated the Sala Regia in the Palazzo del Quirinale.

Biography
During the 1620s, Lanfranco developed a style characterised by dynamic movement and chiaroscuro contrasts. He served as Principe of the Accademia di San Luca in 1631. In 1634, he moved to Naples, where he spent twelve years completing large commissions, including frescoes for the Gesu Nuovo and Santi Apostoli. He returned to Rome in 1646 and died in 1647.
