Leocadia is one of the fourteen Black Paintings created by Francisco Goya during his final years at his home, the Quinta del Sordo. Originally painted directly onto the walls of his dining room, the work depicts Leocadia Weiss, the artist's housekeeper and companion during his later life. She stands in a mourning pose, leaning against a mound or tomb-like structure, her figure draped in a dark shawl that obscures much of her form. The background features a railing, suggesting an outdoor setting or a balcony, though the space remains ambiguous and claustrophobic.

Goya employed a sombre, restricted palette dominated by blacks, greys, and earthy ochres. His brushwork is loose and expressive, characteristic of his late period where he moved away from the polished finish of his earlier court portraits. The application of paint is heavy and textured, reflecting the experimental nature of these works which were never intended for public display. The figure of Leocadia appears isolated, her expression melancholic and guarded. The composition is stark, focusing on the psychological weight of the subject rather than decorative detail.
