This print is part of a comprehensive series documenting the decorative schemes found within the Vatican Loggias. Giovanni Ottaviani, working alongside Gaetano Savorelli, produced these plates to record the grotesque decorations designed by Raphael and his workshop during the early sixteenth century. The project was commissioned to preserve the appearance of these wall paintings, which were already suffering from environmental exposure.

The composition displays a vertical arrangement of classical motifs. It features a combination of architectural elements, such as pilasters and friezes, alongside mythological figures and floral swags. The use of a deep blue background for the fruit garlands provides a contrast to the lighter, cream-toned sections of the architectural framework.
