This work by the Sienese painter Andrea Vanni presents a traditional devotional subject within a pointed, architectural frame. The central panel depicts the Crucifixion, featuring the figure of Christ on the cross, flanked by the Virgin Mary and Saint John the Evangelist. Their postures are restrained, reflecting the solemnity typical of late fourteenth-century Italian religious art.
