Suzuki Harunobu is credited with the development of nishiki-e, or brocade prints, which allowed for the use of multiple colours in a single woodblock composition. This print depicts a young man mounted on a white horse, accompanied by a woman who holds a large umbrella over him. The figures are rendered with the slender, ethereal proportions characteristic of Harunobu's mature style. Their expressions are calm, and their postures suggest a quiet, controlled movement across the pictorial space.
The composition relies on a balanced arrangement of forms against a neutral background. The artist uses a refined palette of soft greens, muted pinks, and warm ochre tones. The lines are precise and delicate, defining the folds of the kimono and the gentle features of the subjects.
