Benvenuto Tisi, known as Garofalo, was a central figure of the Ferrarese school during the sixteenth century. This work, The Adoration of the Magi, displays the stylistic synthesis characteristic of his mature period. The composition follows traditional iconographic conventions, placing the Virgin and Child at the centre, surrounded by the three kings and their retinue.
