Beschreibung
Melton near Woodbridge in Suffolk belongs to the Deben landscape, with low waterside ground and distant trees framing a weathered wooden boat resting on exposed mud in this scene.
Melton is a village and civil parish in East Suffolk, roughly a mile north east of Woodbridge. This location places it close to its larger neighbour while retaining a village identity, with the surrounding low country offering open views across trees, grassland and water.
The scene concentrates on a decaying wooden hull, its curved ribs and broken planks exposed above the mud. A heavy rope runs diagonally towards the foreground. Beyond the boat, still blue water reflects a low wooded shore, scattered pale houses and a small white structure. Cream clouds gather overhead, while bright grass along the bank and full tree crowns suggest a warm summer day.
