His costume features a black outer garment adorned with a repeating pattern, layered over striped robes that add visual texture to the composition.
The background is minimal, featuring a bamboo structure and a floral element to the left, which provides context without distracting from the figure. Katsukawa Shunsen was active during a period when actor prints, or yakusha-e, were highly popular among the urban population of Edo.
