Falls of Bruar in Perthshire plunge between steep grey rock walls below a pale stone arch, with tall pines and green woodland in clear early autumn afternoon light beneath white clouds.
These waterfalls descend through the Bruar Water’s rocky gorge near Blair Atholl. After visiting in 1787, Robert Burns addressed a poem to the Duke of Atholl asking for trees along the bare banks. Subsequent woodland planting and the laying out of paths and bridges helped create the present designed landscape.
Falls of Bruar pour a broad cream white torrent between steep grey walls into a dark blue pool. A pale stone arch spans the narrow gorge above the highest visible drop. Tall pines and thick leafy trees enclose the rocky channel, with small pink turning shrubs on the banks. Bright clouds through the upper canopy suggest clear early autumn afternoon light.
