Beschreibung
Falkland in inland Fife lies below a sweeping green hillside, its clustered pale houses and palace towers surrounded by farmland that stretches towards a long blue horizon.
At the foot of the Lomond Hills, Falkland is known for a Renaissance palace used by the Stuart monarchy. Mary, Queen of Scots enjoyed hunting and falconry on its estate, and the surviving royal tennis court adds another connection with the leisure of the Scottish court.
The village appears small within a broad panorama of green and gold fields. A substantial stone building with towers rises among pale houses and red roofs, while dark trees outline lanes and field edges. Long grass and grey boulders occupy the near slope. Full foliage and clear sunlight suggest midsummer, when the surrounding farmland gives the view its strongest colours.
