J.M.W. Turner painted The Fall of an Avalanche in the Grisons around 1810. This work captures the raw power of nature, a recurring theme in his career. Turner employs a palette of muted greys, whites, and deep browns to convey the atmospheric density of the event. The light source is obscured, creating a sense of impending gloom and chaos.
