Randolph's Leap narrows Moray's Findhorn between pale rock banks, where white water, a small shingle island and dense green woodland give the gorge its close, energetic river character.
South of Forres in Moray, Randolph's Leap takes its name from the narrowest gap between the Findhorn's sheer rock banks. The surrounding countryside is protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, with riverside walks through a setting of cliffs, falls and pine woodland.
Blue water divides around a pale shingle island before squeezing between jagged foreground rocks. White foam traces the current through the gap, while conifers rise above rounded broadleaf canopies on both banks. Bright green foliage suggests early summer. Clear overhead light reaches the exposed stones but leaves the narrow river channel much darker, sharpening the contrast between smooth water and broken rock.
