This miniature painting originates from a dispersed manuscript of the Gita Govinda, a twelfth-century poem by Jayadeva that chronicles the divine love between Krishna and Radha. Attributed to the artist Manohar, who was active within the Mewar court tradition, the work displays the characteristic stylistic traits of early eighteenth-century Rajasthani painting. The composition is divided into two distinct registers, a common device in Indian manuscript illustration to convey sequential narrative or simultaneous action.
