This etching by Nicolas Perelle captures a dramatic atmospheric scene within a classical framework. Perelle, a member of a prominent family of French engravers, produced numerous works that focused on the natural world, often incorporating small figures to provide a sense of scale against the vastness of the terrain. The composition is structured around a foreground of gnarled trees and rocky outcrops, which frame the view of the distant, rolling hills.
